Celebrate Highland musical heritage with an evening to remember

A celebration of the vibrant and thriving musical heritage of the Highlands will take place at Eden Court this month as part of The Royal National Mod.

The all-star line-up of musicians includes Duncan Chisholm, Mairearad Green and James Duncan Mackenzie, as well as a host of local youth talent.

Ar Cànan ‘s Ar Ceol – Our Language Our Music – is being coordinated by High Life Highland Instructor Mhairi Mackinnon on behalf of the Royal National Mod, and will be held in the Empire Theatre at Eden Court on Saturday, October 9 at 7.30pm.

High Life Highland pipers will perform at the concert working with the house band of Hamish Napier on piano, Innes White on guitar and James Mackintosh on drums.

HLH music Instructor Mhairi MacKinnon said: “The show promises to be a great celebration of Highland music, particularly when we’ve been unable to enjoy live music for so long.”

“As well as established performers, we’ll be hearing from our young local talents such as vocalist Anna MacLeod with everyone playing together for the finale.”

The show will be presented by broadcaster Joy Dunlop alongside two young presenters from Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, the Highland’s first designated purpose-built all Gaelic school.

As well as being open to the public, the concert will also be live streamed by the Royal National Mod.

James Graham, Chief Executive Officer of An Comunn Gàidhealach, said: “Ar Cànan ‘s Ar Ceol (Our Language Our Music) will be a really special part of the programme at this year’s Royal National Mòd.

“The line-up is excellent and will really showcase the amazing musical talent we have within the Gaelic community. Up and coming talent will also be at the forefront of the event with some brilliant performances from local young people.

“We hope that this celebration of Highland music will be something for audiences to look forward to after going without live music for so long.”
