High Life Highland Youth Development team win Excellence Award

High Life Highland’s Youth Development team are celebrating today, after being named as the winner of the Enabling Inclusive Communities award in the Generations Working Together Excellence Awards 2022. HLH won the award for their ongoing approach to ‘young people at the heart of our intergenerational work’ in the Black Isle in particular.

The Generations Working Together (GWT) Excellence Awards recognise that intergenerational relationships have an important contribution to make in the rebuilding of our communities. The Awards help to raise awareness of the impact these relationships have on improving health, physical and mental well-being for older and younger people and on reducing ageism.

The GWT Excellence Awards provide an opportunity for individuals and groups to celebrate their learning and success in building relationships between younger and older generations. The award recognises projects and initiatives that have made particular efforts to challenge ageism and promote age-friendly diversity and inclusion in communities.

Alison Clyde, Chief Executive of Generations Working Together, said:

“We are delighted to recognise the exceptional good practice which Wanda and her team have built into their intergenerational work across the community. They have clearly understood and have shown the massive benefit which comes from joining people together from different generations. The impact is powerful, brings joy and happiness and clearly means so much to everyone involved. Well done everyone, we hope your success and story will help inspire many others to follow suit.”

Wanda Mackay, Youth Development Officer at High Life Highland, said:

“This is great recognition for the work we’ve been doing for over 11 years now, on our intergenerational journey, encouraging and supporting contact between younger and older people in our communities. Here in the Black Isle, our young people, older people and partners are delighted with the news of the award and the endorsement of the valuable work that has been undertaken in our community.”

Steve Walsh, Chief Executive of High life Highland, commented:

“I am delighted that the excellent work being undertaken by Wanda and the Youth Development Team in the Black Isle has been recognised by GWT. It is so important for us to support all generations to come together, and all the more so as we recover from the impact of the pandemic.”
