On Saturday 2nd September, the Highland Archive Centre will once again be participating in the nationwide ‘Doors Open Days Festival’, Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating places and stories new and old.
Based on Bught Road, Inverness, the Highland Archive Centre is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible, archives relating to the history of the Highlands.
Visitors are welcomed in from 10am to 4pm, during which they will be able to explore displays of original archive material relating to centuries of Highland history, chat with High Life Highland experts in family history, watch live demonstrations of document conservation, and discover more about how the Highland Archive Centre supports learning in local groups and schools.
There will be fun activities for children, and also the opportunity to see items from the extensive photographic collections of the Highland History and Culture website: www.ambaile.org.uk
Alison Mason, High Life Highland’s Archivist, said: “The Highland Archive Centre’s participation in the ‘Doors Open Day’ is always a highlight of the year, as we welcome in lots of visitors both new and familiar.
“For those who have visited previously, there is always something new to discover among the millions of items held inside. For those are planning to visit for the first time, you will certainly leave feeling amazed by the collections.
“Those who wish to learn more about the Highland Archive Service can book onto one of three free tours to see behind-the-scenes, taking you into our extensive strongrooms full of treasures dating from the 1200s to the present day!”
