Primary pupils from schools across East Sutherland in the Highlands have shown they are well above par when it comes to cross country running.
The Bonar Bridge and Ardgay Golf Club was the location for last week’s (Friday 26th April) East Sutherland School Sports Association (ESSSA) annual cross country competition, which saw 84 ace pupils flying around the course like eagles!
This year the races were split between P4-5 pupils and P6-7 pupils – and as always split between boys and girls. All eight schools from East Sutherland were represented along with North West Sutherland schools and Gledfield Primary School. Placings were given and times recorded for the first, second and third in both the boys’ and girls’ races across all the schools. In addition, the East Sutherland schools competed for first and second place for the small and large schools categories, split between boys and girls.
Organised by High Life Highland’s Active Schools Co-ordinator, on behalf of ESSSA, the event was certainly no bogey! Elissa Stevenson, commented: “It was wonderful to see so many pupils taking part, they were all excited to be there and really did their best to get around the route as fast as they could.
“We were delighted to have the visiting schools taking part as well and for the majority of the morning, the weather stayed dry! I’d like to thank the school staff and volunteers for their assistance with the marshalling and finish line tasks, the Bonar Bridge and Ardgay Golf club for hosting the event and Councillor Jim McGillivray for presenting the medals and trophies. Events like these cannot happen without this ongoing support.”
