Show your appreciation for your local library!

From craft fairs and books sales to coffee mornings and musical performances, High Life Highland libraries will be looking a little different next week (10th-16th March) as they host a series of fundraising events.

The charity is keen to shine a light on its library service and boost donations to help support continued investment in this vital resource.

Julie Corcoran, Head of Libraries at High Life Highland explained: “Libraries are important to people of all ages and from all walks of life. They’re not just places to go to borrow a book or quiet spaces for study – they are so much more.

“For children and families there are BookBug sessions as well as Lego and maths clubs. For adults we offer a wide range of activities including craft clubs, book clubs and author visits. Libraries also provide access to IT facilities and digital support.

“People can simply come in out of the cold and have a seat and read of the papers if they wish – there is no obligation to spend any money. They are truly at the centre of every community and at High Life Highland we are very proud of what we offer.

“With that in mind and with a view to making sure we can continue to play this vital role; we are having a focused fundraising drive next week. We are offering our customers something extra when they visit – whether it’s tea and cake or the chance to buy books or handmade crafts, we hope in doing so we can boost our donations target.”

Some highlights during Fundraising Week include badge making in Inverness and Inshes libraries, a family fun day and pop up café at Culloden Library, there’s a plant sale happening at Dingwall Community Library, a Knitting Club sale at Portree Library as well as cake sales at Glenurquhart Library and Learning Centre.
