Smithton Primary is identified as an area on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, therefore supporting after school clubs, unless delivered by parent volunteers or student coaches, requires external funding. A recent successful application to Moray Firth Cash for kids for £3,000 in conjunction with Active Schools and Smithton Primary Parent council has enabled us to set up after school clubs in dance, martial art, gymnastics and purchase of gymnastics mats, running vests and basketball strips.
2017/2018 Plan
• continue to support volunteer parents and coach with after school gymnastics
• continue to support after school basketball clubs for P4-P5 and P6-P7
• continue to support after school running club
• continue to support early morning Wake Up and Shake Up dance club.
• Liaise with the Wing Tjun School of Self Defence to set up Kung Fu classes to start in Term 1. Identify target age group, day and time.
• Encourage a parent volunteer to set up bikeability training for P6-P7s
• deliver Young Leader training to P7s.
Invite a variety of clubs throughout the year to provide 4 week block tasters to classes either as after school or curriculum time.
