6th August 2022 marks 150 years since the passing of the 1872 Education (Scotland) Act – a piece of legislation which transformed education in Scotland and has left a substantial legacy both positive and negative.
We’re delighted to launch an online exhibition which uses items from our collections to tell the story of this act – how it came about and what the Highland Archive Service collections can tell us about teachers, subjects, discipline, holidays and the impact of the act on Gaelic.
