WW1, the Home Front in the Highlands in 1916

Earlier this year the Highland Archive Centre held a free drop in event to commemorate the centenary of WW1, 1916 specifically, which marked the half way point of the Great War, concentrating on its effects in the Highlands. The event was very well received and we had requests to repeat it. We are therefore running the event again.

The exhibition is a very thought provoking event which consists of original archive material, photographs, family trees and Books of Remembrance. If you are able to come along, you will be able to follow a time line throughout the year of 1916, reading original archive entries from the period. You will be able to look at family trees of some of those local men who fell during this year of the Battle of the Somme and to read Books of Remembrance of some of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. There will also be a display of photographs of Highlanders on the field of battle, displayed courtesy of The Imperial War Museum.

The event will take place at the Highland Archive Centre, Inverness on 12 November 2016, 11am-3pm. For further information phone 01463 256444 or email [email protected]
