Broadford Youth Club in Skye welcomed 18 young people from Argentina who were visiting the area in September.
On arrival in Skye, the group joined Broadford Youth Club for a variety of activities and games, bringing delicious cakes for everyone too. The group took part in pool, darts, table tennis, and then a football match with the Argentinian young people pipping their Scottish friends at the post with a 3-2 victory for the visitors! The evening continued with a game of dodgeball before the group departed.
Nicholas Kelly, Assistant Youth Worker for Highlife Highland who support the Broadford Youth Club, said:
“It was great to welcome the Argentina group to Broadford Youth Club. It was a brilliant cross-cultural night, young people all interacting and chatting to each other, and the games of football and dodgeball were very entertaining!”
Samuel Stewart, a member of Broadford Youth Club, said:
“We all had a great time! Their cake was amazing and they were really good at football. It was just sound to meet the whole group.”
With an itinerary taking in Ireland, Scotland, England and Holland, the group had previously visited Inverness where they spent time with pupils at Charleston Academy and took part in drama activities at Eden Court theatre.
During their visit to Highland, the group met with Caitlyn Munro, the Highland Youth Convener, and Hamish Nott, Chair of the Highland Youth Parliament, and discussed links between Scotland and Argentina around the youth voice and participation.
A visit to Plockton enabled the group to meet pupils at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music.
Broadford Youth Club is an independent organisation operating out of the village hall in the community. It has been supported for many years on a weekly basis through the direct involvement of Nicholas Kelly, HLH Assistant Youth Worker. Nicholas works with others including volunteers to offer targeted youth work addressing locally identified needs of young people and the community.
After their trip to Highland the Argentinian group was due to visit Glasgow, Edinburgh and London, before travelling to Amsterdam and then returning to Argentina.
