High Life Highland’s Botanic Gardens in Inverness are always a place of colour and beauty, but people may not be aware that the café doubles up as an art gallery, where local artists works are displayed for all to enjoy.
Currently showcasing his artistic talents at the Café Botanics is John Nicholson – a well known Scottish artist who has lived and worked in the Highlands for 50 years, with the region providing inspiration for his colourful paintings, particularly Skye.
Based in Inverness and a former art and design teacher, French influences also feature strongly in John’s collections with favourite haunts including the Tarn, Corrèze and Dordogne. John’s exhibition titled ‘Things Botanical’ will be on show, with pieces on sale, at Café Botanics up until 15th May.
Following John, the next artwork to adorn the walls of Café Botanics will be a series of vigorous and atmospheric paintings by Renate Jephcott. This will be Renate’s first solo exhibition and runs until 5th July.
Café Botanics receives a commission on all exhibiting artworks sold, which helps support the upkeep of the gardens.
