East Caithness Community Facility (ECCF) will be reopening on Saturdays from this weekend, High Life Highland (HLH) has revealed.
From Saturday (September 4) the Newton Road, Wick facility will be open from 10am until 12.30pm for public swimming and until 1.30pm for gym goers.
Saturday swimming lessons will start from September 11 between 12.30pm and 1.45pm. Lessons will be focused on beginners and have space for 48 children across the two classes.
HLH Director of Sport and Leisure Douglas Wilby said: “We’re delighted to be opening on Saturday mornings, a time we know will be very popular for swimming lessons, and we’ll be introducing further spaces for new swimmers after the October holidays.
“We’re also looking forward to welcoming Wick Swimming Club on Saturdays, a great club for swimmers aged from six to 18 and offering the opportunity for swimmers to compete at both local and national level.”
High Life Highland is understood to be the only leisure provider in the country to offer access to swimming lessons as part of its highlife membership scheme.
ECCF manager Alan Larnach added: “I’m very happy that we’ve been able to accommodate the number of children we currently have in our various swimming lesson programmes – 272 within our learn to swim and adult and child instruction programmes, and we’ve also welcomed back our schools for swimming sessions.
“Now we’re opening on Saturdays, there will be 48 additional spaces for learners, and we’ll be introducing more spaces after the October break.”
East Caithness Community Facility is open Monday to Friday 7am until noon and between 3pm and 8.35pm. Saturday opening hours will be 10am until 1.30pm and Sunday between 10am and 1.30pm.
