Fortrose School and Community Library participated in ‘Harry Potter Book Day’ on Wednesday 12th October, where over 30 local children attended dressed as their favourite characters.
Each year, Harry Potter Book Day is a chance for fans around the globe to celebrate J.K. Rowling’s iconic series with events, parties, and other festivities in their community.
The theme for this 2023 was ‘Magical Places’. In recognition, High Life Highland staff at Fortrose School and Community Library converted the space into a quaint and cosy replica of ‘The Burrow’ (the home of the Weasley family).
Sya Bruce, High Life Highland’s Network Librarian, said: “What a delight it was to host this special annual event, and see such great engagement from local families who came in costume on the day.
“Even colleagues, parents, carers, and guardians joined in – though a special mention must go to Ailea, who won best costume on the day for her excellent ‘Dobby the House Elf’ garb.
“Children made pixie jars and flying keys before listening to a reading from ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ – second book in the series – narrated by myself.
“The team at Fortrose School and Community Library organised this event in partnership with Inverness Museum and Art Gallery (IMAG).
“We were honoured to be joined by Alison Parfitt, High Life Highland’s Engagement Curator at IMAG, who brought with her some truly magical creatures.
“Alison was also the able judge of our costume competition on the day – a tough job with such an array of brilliant costumes to choose from!”
Alison added: “Inverness Museum and Art Gallery were delighted to support Library colleagues by taking some of our loan collection for a magical trip to Harry Potter Night.
“Our tawny owl, red squirrel, wren and siskin were taken out for the night to be a part of this enchanting recreation, and seemed very at home in The Burrow!
