Over 150 jobseekers flocked to Inverness Leisure Centre on Friday 1st December for High Life Highland’s pilot ‘Recruitment Open Day’ event aimed at those looking for full-time, part-time, and flexible work options.
This first-of-its-kind event at Inverness Leisure gave attendees the opportunity to learn more about High Life Highland and hear about what being a High Life Highland employee is like first-hand, directly from current members of staff.
Kevin Thomson, High Life Highland’s Area Leisure Manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted to see people of all demographics and walks of life come along on the day to explore the different roles open to applicants.
“The roles on offer included: lifeguard, dryside, fitness instructors, reception, swimming teachers, gardeners, and more.
“As this event is not one that has been hosted before, we weren’t sure what kind of turnout to expect – and we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome. Footfall was high, and interest in High Life Highland as well as the various roles was also high.
“Over two thirds of the attendees chose to apply to a role on the day, and five of those landed interviews there and then – only a week has passed since the event, and one of the successful applicants has already started in their new role!
“It’s clear to see that there is a demand from the local community for events like these, where job options are easy to peruse, and staff are immediately available to give more information, personal testimonials, and answer any questions that may arise.
“The team are currently working through applications received on the day, so successful applicants can expect to hear back in due course.”
Steven Clelland, High Life Highland’s Leisure Manager for Inverness Leisure, said: “The team at Inverness Leisure were so happy to see so many people come along with a genuine interest for High Life Highland and the role it plays in serving the community.
“Without staff covering all necessary roles, it would be impossible to keep Inverness Leisure regularly open to the public. Being able to have this open dialogue with members of the community was a chance to spread awareness of this reality, and helped to inspire attendees to apply knowing the difference their joining the team could make.
“On behalf of the team at Inverness Leisure, I’d like to thank everyone who chose to come along on the day to browse job options, speak with staff, make an application, and have the confidence to go forward with a same-day interview. Because of you, the event was a resounding success.
“It was very special and moving to see how much interest and support there is in the community for High Life Highland’s many facilities and services, such as Inverness Botanic Gardens, the Highland Archive Centre, our Community Centres, and more.
“If you were unable to attend on the day, I recommend you take a look at the remaining roles available, which are accessible via High Life Highland’s recruitment page.
“Due to the popular demand and the positive impact of this first-of-its-kind event at Inverness Leisure, the team are working to host another Recruitment Open Day in future – stay tuned on our socials and the High Life Highland website.”
