Fresh from her stunning performance in Paris, Paralympic canoeist, Hope Gordon has been paying a visit to local schools in her home county to show off her silver medal!
Dornoch Academy and several local primary schools were delighted to receive a visit and get the opportunity to hear all about Hope’s sporting journey and ask questions.
Hope was in secondary school when she was diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome in her leg, which resulted in her having to have her leg amputated. She used swimming as a means of recovery and ultimately gained a place in the Paris 2024 Paralympics Paracanoe team. She also competed at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Nordic Skiing!
Elissa Stevenson, the Active Schools Coordinator for East Sutherland said: “Hope’s successes are amazing and she has really inspired pupils, telling them never to give up on their sporting dreams. We are so grateful for her taking time out of her busy schedule to make these visits.
“Both primary and secondary children enjoyed hearing Hope’s story, with the younger children particularly taken with her robot leg and getting to feel how heavy the silver medal actually is!”
