In partnership Highland Rugby Club, Inverness Leisure Centre has welcomed Scottish Rugby to the city for training ahead of the Commonwealth Games this summer.
The High Life Highland facility provided players use of the newly refurbished strength and conditioning suite along with access to the Canal Park pitch for preparations for the games.
The team has yet to be announced, but Rugby 7s is a core sport in the Commonwealth Games and made its debut in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.
It was in Manchester in 2002 that Scotland first entered a team. This year’s Commonwealth Games take place in Birmingham from July 28 through to August 8.
High Life Highland Chief Executive Steve Walsh said: “Last month we hosted the Scotland Weightlifting Team, this week Rugby 7’s – the Highlands are now attracting international teams to our state-of-the-art facilities and it’s brilliant that we can attract Commonwealth Games athletes to prepare right here in Inverness.
“High Life Highland is committed to supporting local athletes and we work closely with sportscotland to provide free access to athletes and more recently supporting young athletes with our Highland Athlete Travel Award Scheme to ensure their location isn’t a barrier to success.”
Scottish Rugby Game Development Manager Sinclair Patience added: “The Caledonia North Rugby Development Team are delighted that the Scotland 7’s squad have chosen Inverness as a venue to prepare for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
“Whether it be at grassroots or performance, on or off the pitch, we are continually striving to provide opportunities for our Caledonia North communities to become involved with rugby and sport. Our partnership with High Life Highland is key to this.”
