Leon Patchett will be visiting Inverness Museum and Art Gallery this on the afternoon of Saturday 25th November, to discuss the exhibition ‘An Inspired Scavenger’.
This exhibition is currently ongoing in the Main Art Gallery area, showcasing sculptures which have been created using natural found objects discovered during foraging adventures.
His sculptural work has evolved from using material gathered in the local environment, and transformed into the stunning constructions which make up the exhibition.
Leon’s ‘Affric Winter Walk Sculpture’ was a commission by ‘Spirit:360’, a commissioning programme for emerging and established creatives in partnership with Highland Place Partnership and Creative Scotland Place Partnership to support and promote artists during what were collectively a challenging few years: https://discoverhighlandsandislands.scot/en/spirit-360
Leon’s talk will mark a close to the exhibition, which has been open to the public since Saturday 7th October this year.
Cathy Shankland, High Life Highland’s Visual Arts Curator (Exhibitions), said: “We are so excited to be welcoming Leon Patchett, the artist himself, to Inverness Museum and Art Gallery’s Main Art Gallery this weekend.
“It will be a fantastic opportunity for established and budding local artists, as well as the wider community, to network and learn more about Leon’s process from concept to end.
“Leon’s approach provides an alternative view of how to use found or discarded material for art, revealing his personal vision of making sculpture.
“Collecting and making, making and collecting, inform each other to find different ways to develop the work. The process generates spontaneous and eccentric outcomes upon which the artist asserts geometrical forms, mimicking nature, to produce the final pieces.
“The talk is sure to be exciting, inspiring, and insightful, so I encourage anyone involved in the local arts scene to come along and join in on the conversations.”
Leon will begin his talk at 2pm on Saturday 25th November, covering topics such as his foraging adventures, his creative techniques and practice, all while guiding guests around the exhibition before it officially closes.
