Organisers of the new ‘Get Set for Summer’ event were blown away by everything about the free-to-enter extravaganza when over 8,000 visitors descended on the City’s Northern Meeting Park on Saturday.
High Life Highland and LCC Live brought together a perfect partnership to deliver an event to thousands of people over the course of Saturday, based on the concept of giving back to the community at a time when many individuals and families are struggling.
Speaking after the event, Les Kidger, Managing Director with LCC Live said: “Everything just came together, and it was terrific to see so many families come along to ‘Get Set for Summer’ from the moment we opened the Northern Meeting Park gates.
“It was such an incredible event. There was excitement from 11am in the morning all the way through the day until our first ever ‘Get Set for Summer’ event came a close at 5pm – with the sun still shining.”
Steve Walsh, Chief Executive of High Life Highland, continued: “It was amazing to see so many individuals and families come along to the park to ‘Get Set for Summer’ and enjoy a free-to enter event in the centre of the city.
“I spoke with many people throughout the day who were waxing lyrically about how good the event was, and the fact that their children had been in the park all day enjoying the many free events that had been on offer from the array of charities present at the event.”
Amy MacLeod, High Life Highland’s Events Development Manager, concluded: “Judging by the smiles, the laughs, the feedback throughout the day, and people’s lack of enthusiasm to leave the park at the end of the day, it seems ‘Get Set for Summer’ was a successful event.
“I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of High Life Highland and LCC Live to the many sponsors, contributors, businesses, charities and other organisations who helped many thousands of people to enjoy this weekend.
“I would also pay special thanks to the many LCC Live and High Life Highland staff and volunteers who gave up their time on Saturday to make sure the event went as it did. And a huge shout out to the massive contribution from our HLH Young Leaders volunteers, who kept the free-activity area going all day with masses of energy and enthusiasm – right ‘til the end.”
‘Get Set for Summer’ took place at the historic Northern Meeting Park and will be one of the final major events to take place in the location prior to refurbishment works taking place at the historic city location.
The refurbishment works at the Northern Meeting Park are part of three projects along the River Ness in Inverness designed to boost the city’s sporting and cultural attractions, preserve key heritage assets, help attract more tourists and assist in achieving net zero carbon targets and which are being supported with almost £20 million from the Levelling Up Fund.
LCC Live, one of the partners in bringing ‘Get Set for Summer’ together, will now immediately move on to preparations for Clean Bandit, supported by Ella Henderson and Keir Gibson on Friday 30th June, followed by Rag’n’Bone Man supported by Josh Barry and Shambolics on Sunday 2nd July – both of which take part at the Northern Meeting Park venue.
