Thurso Leisure team stepping up to help local children

Thurso Leisure Centre staff have pledged to walk 5k every day in April to raise money for MFR’s Cash For Kids as part of the radio station’s Step Around Scotland challenge.

The 14-strong team of High Life Highland employees will be a regular sight out and about in Caithness and beyond in their colourful t-shirts, provided by Highland Workwear, in the coming weeks.

MFR and its sister radio stations are asking the public to come together to walk as many steps as they can, to achieve the equivalent of all the way around Scotland, on Cash for Kids Day (1 May). That works out at approximately 16 million steps, with the MFR area aiming to hit 1 million steps.

However, not content with just walking on Cash For Kids Day, the Thurso Leisure Centre Team have committed to walking every day in April – and in doing so are set to achieve around 3 million steps!

Amy Sutherland, Exercise Instructor at High Life Highland’s Thurso Leisure Centre explained: “Many of us have our own kids and it’s sad to think there are some families who struggle to feed their children during the school holidays. That is why we decided to get involved in Step Around Scotland and raise valuable funds for Cash for Kids.

“We are really looking forward to our daily walks, and friends and family members, as well as our Thurso Leisure Centre customers, are welcome to join us too! We are going to have some fun with it along the way by setting our own mini challenges such as walking somewhere new, tackling a hill or two and there might even be some fancy dress!”

Funds raised by MFR’s Step Around Scotland Challenge stays local and will go towards helping to provide food and fun for disadvantaged children so that no-one misses out during the school holidays.
