A trial closure of Bught Lane, outside Inverness Botanical Gardens, to improve safety and create a pedestrianised zone begins today (October 20).
With both Inverness Leisure, Highland Rugby Club and Inverness Botanic Gardens, the area is increasingly popular with visitors.
Pre-pandemic, Inverness Leisure welcomed over 800,000 people each year, with an additional 150,000 to the Botanic Gardens.
High Life Highland has supported colleagues in The Highland Council to introduce the temporary order which will see the section of Bught Lane in front of the Inverness Botanical Gardens sectioned off with temporary barriers and utilised as a safe, multi-use outdoor space.
Bught Road, between its junction with Bught Avenue and the road leading to the Highland Archive Centre will become one way.
High Life Highland Chief Executive Steve Walsh said: “The number of visitors to these popular facilities are only set to increase and we feel that making the area safer and more pedestrian-friendly is the right way to go for our customers.
“Parking spaces will be unaffected by the changes and access to the rugby club will be re-routed, so the difference for people on the site will be minimal.
“We hope this pilot scheme will be of benefit to visitors and we will actively seek feedback from the trial, which runs until November 7.”
