Around 160 school pupils from Easter Ross and East Sutherland have been pounding the paths at Fairburn Activity Centre for the first in a series of cross country races this season.
Organised by local Active Schools Co-ordinators, the event last week (5th November) was held at Fairburn Activity Centre for the first time, with the next in the series due to take place at Culbokie Woods on 19th November.
P4 – P7 pupils showed they were up to the challenge of running at a new venue, completely unphased by muddy parts and a long uphill section. The girls were first to complete the 1mile (approx.) course with Amber from Kiltearn Primary School claiming 1st quickly followed by Ruby from Bonar Bridge Primary School in 2nd and Ellie from Coulhill Primary in 3rd position.
For the boys, 1st place and 2nd places were claimed by Kiltearn Primary School with Mackie just pipping Harris to the post while Calvin from Dornoch Primary School finished in 3rd place.
Willie MacLeod, Dingwall Active Schools Co-ordinator, who organised the Fairburn event, said: “Thanks so much to all of the parents, teachers and helpers that came along to make the first Dingwall Active Schools Cross Country race at Fairburn a such a success. It was great to see so many runners taking part with some amazing times achieved by the young people, with lots of supporters cheering them on.”
These races are organised as a training opportunity for pupils involved in the Ross-shire Primary School Sports Association Cross Country event and to provide an opportunity for pupils who don’t take part in the area event to run and represent their school in a local level.
