Memories of the Market

‘Sally the Rampaging Cow’, Jimmy Nairn Collection, Highland Photographic Archive, High Life Highland

The sign explaining the history of Inverness’s Victorian Market, which hung for many years above the Superintendant’s Office near Finklestein’s the Jeweller, was donated to the museum recently.  This inspired the team to look for other objects that might have came from there.  The team also searched through the photographic archives to see if there were any images of the market that might not have previously been digitised.  What the search uncovered is now on display in the Community Gallery.

To coincide with this, a selection of images taken at other markets that were once held in and around the burgh in bygone times are on display in the 1st floor photographic gallery.
