Travelling Gallery’s Season One 2025 will feature an exhibition of new collaborative work by artists Rachel McBrinn and Alison Scott that follows a period of research and development in partnership with St Andrews Botanic Garden (SABG) over the course of 2024. A key focus of this research has been the recent decommissioning of SABG’s glasshouses, and a move away from the ideologies and histories these structures represent.
In the work, the figure of ‘the glasshouse’ becomes a prism that brings intersecting legacies of patriarchy and imperialism into focus. Working across moving-image, writing, and with a focus on archival materials, the work addresses the politics of botanical display, maintenance and reproduction.
