‘Until now, Tey was herself the greatest mystery at the heart of her fiction.’

-Val McDermid

Josephine Tey: A Life gives an exclusive insight into one of Scotland’s most legendary crime writers.

Josephine Tey was the pen-name of Elizabeth MacKintosh (1896-1952). Born in Inverness, MacKintosh lived several ‘lives’: best known as Golden Age Crime Fiction writer ‘Josephine Tey’, she was also successful novelist and playwright ‘Gordon Daviot’. At one point, she had plays on simultaneously in the West End in London and on Broadway, and even wrote for Hollywood – all from her home in the north of Scotland.

Jennifer Morag Henderson grew up and lives in Inverness. She is an author, playwright and editor, whose writing has been published in magazines, newspapers and anthologies, and has featured on BBC radio and television. Recent work includes a short play for the National Theatre of Scotland.
