HLH SPORTS TEAM SUPPORTS RUNNING CHALLENGE

High Life Highland’s Active School Coordinators have partnered with the Rural Education Trust at Torlundy to host this years Leanachan Challenge 2022.

Speaking about the event, HLH local Active Schools Co-ordinator Jane Bruce said, “This year’s event will take place on Tuesday 15th November, with the warm-up kicking-off at 11am and the actual race taking place around 15 minutes later.

“We are delighted to be supporting the Rural Education Trust with this event, which is part of High Life Highland’s wider programme of festivals across Locaber. The festival is a Lochaber-wide programme of inter-schools sports challenges throughout the year that includes sports such as, basketball, badminton, rugby, athletics and dodgeball.

Jane explained, “The event this year is being held in memory of the late Peter English, who was a Professor of Agriculture at Aberdeen University and who lived locally in Drumnadrochit. Peter was instrumental in creating the first Leanachan Challenge, specifically to get individuals and families outside, walking and socialising in the fresh air.

“Schools have been asked to raise teams consisting of two boys and two girls from the year-groups across the schools, with the race seeing the teams running along potentially rough, uneven and muddy forestry tracks. So, it will be real chance for them to test their cross-country running skills.”

Darren Reid, High Life Highland’s Head of Sport said, “It is great to see the team in Lochaber further developing local partnerships to support the physical activity of people in this area. It is only through the collaborative support from the local trust, parents and teachers that make the events delivered by the Active Schools team deliverable.”

The Lochaber cross-country running event will take place at ‘An Cluchan’ Rural Education Centre, with registration happening from 10.30 – 11am just ahead of the starters gun.
