In January, Community Engagement Officer Lorna Steele gave a talk to members of the Lochaber Family History Society. The talk covered some of the work of the Highland Archive Service, showing the types of activities we are involved in. It also covered the history of the Lochaber Archive Centre, and featured behind-the-scenes photos of the move to our new home at Alexander Ross House. The Society also saw some digital versions of the records held at the records held in LAC. These included School records, Estate records and Police records (an example of a Police Occurence Book from Fort William in 1914 can be seen above).
We love getting out into the community to let people see what goes on at the Lochaber Archive Centre and how records can be accessed. If you are interested in a talk from the Archive Centre for your own group, please get in touch with us – we can be contacted over e-mail, telephone or you can visit the Lochaber Archive Centre any time during our opening hours.
