The Lochaber Archive recently received a visit from three generations of the McColl family from North Carolina, USA who were visiting the Highlands to re-trace the footsteps of their Scottish ancestors. The Lochaber Archive holds the research papers of Hugh Geoffrey MacColl and the papers of the Clan MacColl Society, an extensive collection of correspondence, notebooks, genealogical charts and photographs spanning Scotland, Canada and the USA. Hugh L. McColl Jr (seated, third from left) and his family were particularly pleased to see early 20th century postcards of the town of McColl, South Carolina. Author Suzanne Hurley (seated third from right) accompanied the McColl family on their trip to Scotland. She carried out research into the McColl family history for her book From the Highlands to High Finance: The Carolina McColls (2011).
