Caithness Archives Centre staff were at John O’Groats on the afternoon of Saturday 1 August, at one of the chalets kindly made available by Natural Retreats.
On display were a selection of items from the archives, including old maps, a police conviction book from the 1870s, school records and architects’ drawings of the Castle of Mey (when it was still Barrogill Castle). The fascinating (and very large) Freswick Estate Map from c.1900 was the star of show, showing all the crofts on the estate and listing the names of the crofters, all the way from Keiss to Stroma.
Thank you to everyone who came along and made the afternoon such a success. More pictures and information can be found on our Facebook page.
