We are holding an Open Day at the Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre in Portree on Tuesday 6 June from 11am-7pm.
Our new Photographic Exhibition features a selection of old favourites from the Duncan Macpherson and David Banks Salmon Fishing collections along with rare views of Skye and the Cuillin which have never been displayed before. We will also showcase photographs from Raasay and Waternish collections along with school, shinty and early transport images.
Come along to the Open Day and see archive film footage of the area from the 1930s and 1960s or browse back copies of local newspapers: the West Highland Free Press and Clarion of Skye. A display of original archive material from local estate, family and business collections will provide a flavour of the range of records in our care.
The Photographic Exhibition will be available throughout the summer during usual archive opening hours: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm.
